West Virginia: Our journey through West Virginia was rainy and long, so we weren’t able to explore any of the seemingly beautiful national parks, caverns or trails. What we did learn in West Virginia (and the western part of Virginia) is that WV is full of “Technology Corridors.” Ironically cell service was not available in any of the advanced technology corridors.

Kentucky: Kentucky has several European city names – Paris, Frankfort (okay, so not quite Frankfurt) and Versailles. However we did discover that the Kentucky pronunciation of Versailles is “Versales.”


Louisville, KY: One thing we didn’t know about our country is what a cool city Louisville, KY is. The downtown is rich in old buildings with a trendy, creative edge.


We visited Churchill Downs, where we discovered that horses are rarely buried whole. They are buried with their heads, hearts and hooves.

Distinguished champions receive the honor of being buried whole – only three have– Man of War, Secretariat and Seattle Slew. Each year before the Kentucky Derby the bridge over the Ohio River is closed and the city hosts Thunder over Louisville, the largest firework show in North America. One last Louisville piece of trivia - Papa John is from Louisville. (I hope is secret sauce doesn’t have anything to do with the unburied horse parts.)
